The Axpo Super League, or simply Super League, is the top League of the Swiss football championships: it is composed of 10 teams that disputed 2 rounds of matches against each others ( two at home and two away ).
The first runner wins the championship, the penultimate does the play-off against the second of the Challenge League(League cadets) and the last is relegated in Challenge League.
As for the European Cups, the first runner participates in the UEFA Champions League , while the second and third go into the UEFA Europa League as possibly the fourth is free if the place assigned to the Swiss Cup.
The Challenge League is the second highest tier of the Swiss Football League: 16 teams play in the Challenge League and the winners of the league are promoted to the Super League, and the bottom two teams are relegated to the 1. Liga.
The second placed team enters a two-legged playoff against the 9th placed team in the Super League, the winner playing in the higher division next season.
